ROLE OF REVERSAL
Maria Santos Grey gets her memory back on All My Children this week. But it's only for a day in this Pine Valley universe turned upside-down. "He doesn't remember me," exclaims Eva LaRue Callahan (Maria) of her onscreen husband Edmund, played by her real-life hubby, John Callahan. "I've finally gotten it together, and now I've got to win him back." AMC tosses the unexpected memory glitch, and several other roles of reversal into its Fan February-inspired episode, which airs Feb. 12 (1 pm/ET ABC). "Anyone who's said, 'I'm so sick of this story, I wish it was Edmund who didn't remember Maria,' that's exactly what they've done today," explains Callahan. "It becomes an inside joke for anyone who watches regularly." Viewers may see Maria painstakingly trying to jog Edmund's memory, but a trip to the set proved that Callahan and Callahan were having a bit more fun. "The lines are totally soapy, and we wanted to add a little camp, but they said play it straight," she reveals.

In the stand-alone episode, wedding bells are ringing for recent widower Tad Martin (gasp here!). "A lot of people wanted to see Tad with a woman," explains Callahan of the surprising nuptials. Viewers will get their wish as Tad, now the town's most desired bachelor, ties the knot with Pine Valley's most experienced bride, Erica Kane. Strange occurrences don't end there. Erica must contend with Bianca, the vindictive daughter, while former magnate Adam Chandler is just trying to make ends meet. "It's definitely a fun day. Rarely do we have the entire cast in for the entire show," shares Callahan of the experience. "I'm kind of bummed to return to the [regular show]. I'm ready to do AMC, the sitcom!" [TV Guide Online]

Fantasy Island: Finola Hughes can't stop raving about her show's Fan February episode. "Michael Knight [Tad] is a genius comedian, and they couldn't have picked a better person to center the show around," she praises. "He is so funny! I rang him the day after we taped it and I was shouting at him on the phone because he was so funny! I twas ridiculous! Walt Wiley [Jack] was great, too. He and Jack Scalia [Chris] were playing off each other, and Susan Lucck [Erica] came up with some very funny lines to Opal." Hughes favorite scene was the fisticuffs free-for-all, but she did have one complaint. "I didn't have anyone to fight!" she sighs. "So, I just stood there striking poses. I was doing Zoolander." It's Only My Opinion by Carolyn Hinsey: AMC's Fan February episode was fab! It kicked off with Tad, Joe, Opal, Myrtle, Brooke, Anna, David, Adam, Maria, and Edmund, so right there, it was a gift. (No newbies or no-talent teens!)

"It's like watching a train wreck," said Opal, referring to Tad's marriage to Erica, but actually describing what we've all been thinking of AMC.  And wasn't it fun to see Susan Lucci do comedy? "I can't marry Tad on the worst hair day of my life," whined Erica, sporting the hairdo that ate Pine Valley.

The episode was full of classic lines, too.

*Anna to David: "It's not a good idea for you to be here... You've drugged most of the people in this room."

*Maria: "I remember everything!"  Edmund: "What did you say your name was?"

*Tad to Aidan: "Hey, fish and chips, relax." After Tad had sex with virtually all the women on the show under the premise that they wanted one last fling with him before he married Erica, he limped into his wedding. Jackson (acting as the minister): "What's the matter with you?" Tad: "I can't feel my thighs."

*As the room filled with wedding guests, Tad noticed that Jack was sporting a religious robe. Tad: "Nice dress." Jack: "Go to hell."

The actors obviously had the time of their lives acting out what were probably some of their own fantasies, as well. (David Canary was a hoot was a broke Adam, who wound up working as a waiter at the wedding.) But Tad's line to Aidan about how we can't understand one word he says made me wonder: If ABC knows that, why aren't they fixing it?

And it did not work for me that the actors called each other by their characters' names while discussing real mail sent from real fans. That was very confusing. Michael E. Knight looked directly at the camera and introduced himself as Tad Martin! But you what? I'll take it. The next day we were back to Maria and Aidan running on a beach, Lysistrata "counseling" Greenlee and some handyman speaking Spanish to Simone. The scribes giveth and the scribes taketh away.
