Anna: "What do you get, Dr. Hayward?" David: "Well, now that we're married, the fun is over, right? No more sex in the morning, no more spontaneity." Anna: "Yeah, that's right. You're cut off. How are you feeling this morning?" David: "I feel as good as I ever feel when... whenever we have a night like the one we had last night." Anna: "Been married a lot, then, have you?" David: "No. I was talking about after the wedding." Anna: "Yeah." David: "Which was the best part, wouldn't you say?" Anna: "I'm starving. Aren't you starving?" (She gets up and moves away from the bed.) David: "Hey, come... wait a minute. Come back here." Anna: "No, no, really. I am. I could eat an english breakfast... eggs, bacon, blood sausage." David: "Hey, hey, hey." Anna: "I know." David: "I'm trying to be romantic here, and you're talking about blood sausages." Anna: "Come on, come on. Get a shower. Come on." David: "Okay." (He grabs her and pulls her back onto the bed.) Anna: "Oh!" Anna: "I married you to help keep you out of jail." David: "I know." Anna: "Should i be sending you there instead?" The scene fades out and returns
later. Anna: "Oh, david, stop it." David: "Hey, you're the one that implied that you wanted to." Anna: "No." David: "That you were having second thoughts about marrying me." Anna: "What I said and what you think I implied are two totally different things." David: "Well, all of this may have been for nothing anyway." Anna: "What?" David: "Well, it's still possible that I won't even be charged with anything and that you won't have to testify against me, which means that all this trouble was for nothing." Anna: "Do i look troubled?" David: "No, no. Only every three seconds or so." Anna: "Really?" David: "Yeah. Are you miserable?" Anna: "No, no, I'm not. Do i look miserable? I'm not miserable." David: "Well, you got this deer-in-the-headlights thing going on, you know?" Anna: "I just think that we rushed into this, and I'm wondering whether either of us really understand all the rules." David: "Hmm. All I know is that this was your idea..." Anna: "Yeah." David: "So you couldn't be forced to testify against me. Right?" Anna: "It's true." David: "But if you felt so inclined, you still can, you know. Which, from where I stand, looks like you have all the power in this relationship." Anna (smiling at him): "You feeling helpless, hayward?" David: "Not yet, hayward." (She laughs) "So.. what are you doing?" Anna: "Getting dressed." David: "Please don't tell me you're becoming shy around me now." Anna: "No, I'm hardly shy. I just thought maybe I'd get on with the day." David: "Hmm. Sounds like a great idea. We can take the day off, go pick out some wedding announcements, huh?" (She gives him a stern look.) "Oh, I know, I know... no one's to know about our marriage until after you become chief of police." Anna: "Thank you." David: "You're welcome. I think you looked a lot nicer with no clothes on, by the way." (He goes to help her put on her necklace but instead begins kissing her. They fall back into bed.) Anna (getting out of bed and putting her clothes back on): "I think I was getting dressed." David: "Right, the hook. Ahem." Anna: "Yeah. Maybe we should try that again." David: "Which part? The hook or the..." Anna: "The hook." David: "Okay." (He gets up, goes over to her and wraps his arms around her.) Anna: "You need a shave." David: "Hmm. Oh, please don't tell me you're going to be one of those nagging wives." Anna: "Yeah, I am. And you're going to let yourself go, drink beer, and watch espn... whatever those stupid ballgames are. I don't know... football, baseball." David: "No, I've never been much for spectator sports myself." Anna: "Oh, wow. So I'm a lucky American wife, then." David: "You could be. Hey. I do... I do care for you, Anna. You do know that, don't you?" Anna: "Sure." David: "Are you really sure?" Anna: "Yeah. I know you don't mean me any harm. I know that you need me to help protect you right now and that you're going to help me get whatever it is that I need, just the same as I'm going to do for you. So it's a perfect match. Don't you think?" David (disappointed): "Great. Okay." Anna goes over to look at herself in the mirror and mutters to herself. Anna: "What are you doing? What are you doing?" David: "Did you say something?" Anna: "No, I just was wondering what we were going to do for the rest of the day." David: "Well, there's... there's one thing I have to take care of when we get back to pine valley." Anna: "There is?" David: "Yeah, there is." Anna: "Okay." David: "So I'm going to check us out." Anna: "Yeah." David (stops and looks at her): "Oh... that's okay with you, right?" Anna: "Why wouldn't it be?" David: "Well, I don't know. We're married now, so I have to remind myself to ask you what you want. You know, I mean, that's the way a partnership is supposed to be, right?" Anna: "It can be." David: "Oh, that's right, you were married already. That's right. How many times?" Anna: "David, be nice." David: "No, no, I just meant that... well, you know how this goes." Anna: "I know even with a business partnership, you can never take anything for granted. Okay?" David: "Anna?" Anna: "Yeah?" David: "Get the car, will you?" Anna: "I can do that." David: "Good." (Anna stops at the door, leans against it and stares around the room before leaving.) |
